Jerry woke up one morning with the mother of all hangovers, his head pounding and his body feeling worse for wear after a heavy night out with his buddies. As he mustered the strength to open his eyes, a surprising sight awaited him – a couple of aspirins and a glass of water on the bedside table, a beacon of relief in his moment of agony.
Sitting up in bed, Jerry’s confusion deepened as he noticed his clothing neatly laid out in front of him, clean and freshly pressed. Surveying the room, he realized that everything was in perfect order, spotlessly clean – a far cry from the aftermath of a typical night of revelry.
With the glass of water and aspirins in hand, Jerry made his way downstairs, guided by an unexpected note on the living room coffee table. The message read, “Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to go shopping. Love you.” Jerry’s bewilderment grew as he entered the kitchen, where a hot breakfast awaited him along with the morning newspaper.
Turning to his son, who was calmly eating breakfast, Jerry couldn’t help but inquire about the events of the previous night. “Son, do you know what happened last night?” he asked.
A nonchalant nod from his son signaled that indeed, he was aware. “You came home after 3 a.m.,” the son responded matter-of-factly. “You were drunk out of your mind and could barely stand.”
Jerry, now more puzzled than ever, asked, “Really?”
His son continued, “Yes, really! You also broke some furniture, puked in the hallway, and gave yourself a black eye when you stumbled into the door.”
Jerry’s confusion reached new heights as he grappled with the contradiction between the chaos of the night before and the orderliness of his current surroundings. Seeking an explanation, he queried, “So, why is everything in order, so clean, and breakfast on the table waiting for me?”
A mischievous grin spread across his son’s face as he responded, “Oh, that? Well, when mom dragged you to the bedroom and tried to undress you, you just kept shouting, ‘Lady, leave me alone, I’m married.'”
And with that revelation, the pieces of the puzzle fell into place, leaving Jerry with a hangover, a few broken memories, and a humorous tale of an unexpected twist in the morning after a night of excess.
