An elderly gentleman walked into a fancy restaurant and approached the maitre d’. He said, “I’d like to reserve a table for two.”
The maitre d’, looking at the man’s shabby appearance, smirked and said, “Certainly, sir. But just to inform you, our dress code is quite formal. Do you have a jacket and tie?”
The old man replied, “Oh, actually, I have something even better.” He reached into his bag and pulled out a beautifully crafted, antique pocket watch.
Confused, the maitre d’ raised an eyebrow and asked, “How does a pocket watch qualify as formal attire?”
The old man grinned and said, “Well, you see, time changes everything, including dress codes. This watch has witnessed more fine dining than you can imagine. Now, may I have that reservation?”
Amused by the old man’s wit, the maitre d’ chuckled and led him to a prime table. As the old man sat down, he whispered to the watch, “Looks like we’ve still got it.”
And just like that, the old man enjoyed a splendid meal, proving that sometimes, a dash of humor can be the best reservation in any setting.
