One sunny Sunday morning, Pastor Sarah stood before her congregation, sharing the news that the church urgently needed funds for a new sound system. She kindly asked the congregation to consider contributing a little extra during the offering.
To sweeten the deal, she added, “As a special thank you, whoever makes the most generous donation will get to choose three hymns for the next service!”
After the offering plates made their rounds, Pastor Sarah eagerly checked the contributions. Much to her surprise, she found a beautifully wrapped gift box with a note that simply read, “For the music of our souls.”
Excitedly, she opened the box to discover a set of keys inside, attached to the title deed of a grand piano. The congregation buzzed with curiosity as Pastor Sarah couldn’t contain her joy.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the generous soul who gifted us this magnificent piano,” Pastor Sarah announced. “This is truly a blessing! Please, if you’re here, let us thank you personally.”
A petite, elderly gentleman near the back timidly raised his hand. “Sir, we are so appreciative of your extraordinary gift. Please come forward,” Pastor Sarah urged.
As the elderly man approached the front, Pastor Sarah took his hand, thanking him profusely. Overwhelmed with emotion, she said, “As a token of our gratitude, you now have the privilege of choosing three hymns for our next service.”
The elderly man chuckled and, after a thoughtful pause, pointed to the church choir, saying, “I’ll take the soprano, the alto, and the tenor. Music to my ears!” The congregation erupted in laughter, grateful for the unexpected twist that brought joy and harmony to their church.
